2020 Gala Information

The gala countdown has begun…

We’re less than a week away from announcing the winners of the 2020 BC and Yukon Book Prizes on Saturday, September 19th at 7 pm.

This year’s gala will be a pre-recorded video featuring our host Shelagh Rogers, BC and Yukon Book Prizes’ executive director Sean Cranbury, Lieutenant Governor the Honourable Janet Austin, along with members of our literary community such as Susan Juby, Monique Gray Smith, Mercedes Eng and more who will be announcing the winners of the 2020 BC and Yukon Book Prizes.

There are two ways you can view the gala video on Saturday, September 19th:

  1. YouTube: The pre-recorded gala video will be posted at 7pm on Saturday. You’ll be able to view the video on YouTube. We’ll also make sure the link is available on our website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. If you’re unable to view the video on Saturday, or you just want to watch it again, don’t worry, it will live on YouTube forever and always.
  2. BC and Yukon Book Prizes #bookprom Zoom Viewing Party: We want to celebrate the finalists and winners of the 2020 BC and Yukon Book Prizes together, so we’re holding a viewing party of the pre-recorded video where members of the literary community including Shelagh Rogers, Tara Borin, Dina Del Bucchia, Sean Cranbury and Megan Cole (with special appearances from our award presenters!!) will gather to cheer on all the finalists. This is just an opportunity for the literary community to gather and celebrate! The Zoom link will be sent to all finalists later this week. You don’t have to RSVP. Just dress up (however that looks for you), prepare a celebratory beverage and get ready to have fun!

We’re also giving you an opportunity to be part of the winning on Saturday, September 19th! You can Win the Winners! During the gala on we’ll be giving away three stacks of the winning books from the eight traditional categories of the BC and Yukon Book Prizes!

How do you win? Post pictures of yourself in your gala attire, post pictures of your favourite 2020 finalist title, dress like your favourite book and share a picture, etc. No matter what you do to participate in the celebration make sure you use the hashtag #bcybp2020 and we’ll announce the winner the night of the gala on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, as well as during the #bookprom viewing party.

More information including the links to the viewing party and the pre-recorded gala video will be coming later this week. Stay tuned.
