Publishers and authors may submit books that fit the prizes/awards categories as posted on the BC Book Prizes website. Books must meet all of the general criteria for the BC Book Prizes, and all the eligibility criteria for each individual prize. There are six prize categories and two awards given out each year. See Prize and Award Categories for details.
To be eligible entry forms and fees must be received by, or postmarked, not later than December 1. ($30 per book, per prize category entered)
The Official Entry Forms will be available beginning July 15 each year, until the closing date for entries which is December 1. Books must have been published during that same calendar year between January 1 and December 31, for the six prize categories and the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award.
Three copies of the book must be provided for the jury for each prize category entered. Books published by November 15 must be received in our office by December 1. No exceptions will be made.
Books published between November 15 and December 31 must request a late submission of books option, in writing, on the Official Entry Form and indicate when the books will be available. The Entry Form and fee must still be received by the December 1 deadline.
The Official Entry Form is available on the website. Fill in the form online and print out the entry confirmation. The entry confirmation must be mailed to the BC Book Prizes office along with 3 copies of the book and the $30 entry fee for each prize category entered. Payment only by cheque or money order made payable to BC Book Prizes or cash.

Judging and Prize information
For each of the six prize categories there is a jury of three industry professionals, and from their individually submitted ballots, five finalists including the winner are selected in each prize category.
For the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award there is a ballot vote by BC Booksellers and from those ballots, five finalists including the winner are selected.
The finalists for these six prizes and award are announced in mid-March and are celebrated at the annual Soirée evening held in Vancouver at the launch of the BC Book Prizes On Tour, usually in early April. A few of the finalist authors/illustrators are selected to participate on the tour.
The winners of these six prizes and award receive a cash prize of $2,000 plus a certificate.
At the Lieutenant Governor’s BC Book Prizes Gala the prize winners are announced and the Lieutenant Governor presents his/her Award. The Gala is held annually in the spring (late April, early May). Every third year the Gala is held at Government House in Victoria and for the two in between years the Gala is held in Vancouver.
